About the event
Celebrate Black History Month with us as we explore the transformative journey of Black music in America. This interactive event traces the evolution from spirituals and the blues to jazz, soul, and hip-hop—highlighting how Black musicians have used their art as a force for survival, resistance, innovation, and joy.
Featuring a multimedia presentation that honors Philadelphia's significant contributions to Black music history, including The Sound of Philadelphia, The Roots, Patti LaBelle, and today's emerging artists. Students will engage with guided reflection questions and group discussions exploring music's role in social movements, cultural identity, and personal expression.
Whether you're a music lover, history buff, or simply curious, this event invites you to see yourself in the story of America's most influential musical tradition.
